The summer match programme and results are here. The Breadsall Priory away break summary is here. The last away day is on 29/9/22 at Stoke Rochford, near Grantham with the entry list here.
Stoke Rochford away day 29/9/22 24 of us went to this course, on the A1 near Grantham, for the first time. We all enjoyed the course although some found the fast, difficult to read greens a bit intimidating. Weather was fine apart from one very brief slight shower. Some new faces appeared to receive their prizes, as below :- Nearest pin hole 3 Phil Partridge, sleeve of balls Nearest pin hole 12 Bob Howes, sleeve of balls Longest drive hole 16 Tim Fox, sleeve of balls Second overall, 36 points Vince Hallam, 2 sleeves of balls, voucher and Asti Martini First overall, 42 points Trevor Davies, 3 sleeves of balls, voucher and Asti Martini
There were three players all on 36 but Vince came out best on count back. Unfortunately for Trevor, an umbrella was not in the prizes.
Ladies home 28/9/22 The last match of the 2022 summer season was halved in a very friendly match. One highlight was Jane Lewis, the ladies captain, chipping in on the 6th for a birdie, 4 for 4.
B Team home 26/9/22 Turned out to be a lovely afternoon, warm and overcast. Garry and his team were good fun. The first and last groups won on the final putt, and overall Seniors won 6 - 0. We will look to repeat the fixture next year with the Seniors as hosts.
Glen Gorse away 14/9/22 Our last match against another club cmae down to the last pair with an overall halved match. Some of the green have a way to recover from the summer. A good meal with a 'proper pie'
Kirby Muxloe away 12/9/22 What a lovely Autumn day for the first nine, then it rained a little, then it rained a lot. The course was in great condition and the hosts were equally great. Lutterworth were soundly defeated 5.5 to 1.5.
Kibworth home 7/9/22 A resounding home win with course in excellent condition and fairways starting to look greener. Weather good until the last group were coming up the last hole to rolls of thunder with lashing rain during the ecellent meal.
Kirby Muxloe home 24/8/22 What a perfect day for golf and no rain; another new member (Steven Cowell) joined us for the first time. A draw overall which everyone was happy with.
LRGU knock out semi-final 9/8/22 This took place against Beedles Lakes and played at Birstall golf club. Several players had not played there before so some exploring. As in previous rounds, total betterball Stableford scores counted. Another match played on brown fairways in very hot weather. The first pair from Beedles Lakes were demoralised by an eagle 2 on the 12th hole for 5 points.
After 4 matches, tied at 2 each but Beedles Lakes won the last match to go thorugh to the final.
The results were :- Bob Howes & Patrick Honan won 43 to 28 Chris Bridge & Gareth Pomfret lost 36 to 44 Ian Morris & Mick Shilcock won 41 to 38 Vince Hallam & Norman Beaumont lost 38 to 41 Sarb Matharu & Chris Well lost 40 to 44
Cosby home 8/8/22 It was very closely contested all the way, with a draw 3.5 each the final result.
Staverton home 29/7/22 In spite of Staverton having two defectors, they manager a 4.5 to 2.5 win. Everyone thought the course in great condition and all enjoyed the meal.
Market Harborough home 25/7/22 Another good home win with the course in great condition. For some the weather was kind, for a few, they did get a bit wet.
LRGU K/O vs Melton Mowbray home 22/7/22 This was the next round of the LRGU Knock out played in the unusual format of pairs betterball Stableford. An overall win 3.5 yo 1.5 so we play Beedles Lakes in the semi final.
Kilworth Springs away 18/7/22 This was played in one of the hottest days for many years so only 9 holes were played. Not the best result with the home team, Kilworth Springs, winning 6.5 to 1,5.
Kibworth away 15/7/22 Another match is hot weather with fairways getting a bit brown but excellent, if fast, greens. Kibworth got their revenge with a 4 to 3 win.
Lingdale away 13/7/22 A great away match in glorious weather even though it proved too hot for one of the Lingdale players, who later recovered. They also had a very late drop out so one group went out late and were very late into the excellent meal after the match. Lingdale got their own back, after losing at Lutterworth, with a 5 to 2 win.
Whetstone away 6/7/22 A rather heavy defeat away 6 and 1. This was tempered by the good weather, course in reasonable condition and an excellent meal after. Perhaps, for some, a warm up for the David Raiit trophy the following day.
Glen Gorse home 30/6/22 After only starting with 11 home players, we eventually got everyone out. Another excellent meal with everyone complimentary about the course. However, a 4 to 2 loss was not was needed but another enjoyable day.
Rugby away 27/6/22 The return match after our defeat at home. Rounds started out with light drizzle but at one time a biblical deluge. Course and meal good. Two players, Nirmal and Alan Thiel, had specifically asked to play and were the only winning pair. The overall result was a 5 to 1 defeat.
LRGU County Knock-out vs Kibworth 23/5/22 This was the first round we played in for the county seniors knock-out and was a win for Lutterworth 4.5 to 0.5. The format was a little unusual as pairs betterball stableford. As usual, enjoyed by everyone even the visiting tea. All were complimentary about the meal and the course.
Whetstone home 13/6/22 Another good home win, with one match decided on the last put on the last green. Course playing well and our visitors found the greens fast.
Ullesthorpe home 2/6/22 The return match played in perfect weather with the course looking in superb condition. All players, both home and away, agreed about the course. Again, excellent food after the match and at the Half Way House. After a good initial win, things went a bit downhill in the middle groups. The result was the same as our away defeat, 4 and 3.
Beau Desert away day 31/5/22 18 seniors went over to Cannock for the first away day of the year. After the usual bacon cobs, we got underway with a daunting first tee shot over a chasm and up the hill. Several also had their first taste of the brutal rough. This is one course where you needed to be straight for all shots. We also found the green tricky. So, all in all, a challenging course. This was not helped by the weather. Bright summer sun interspersed with monsoon rain. Now the results with the presentation pictures here.
Nearest pin hole 3 Vince Hallam, 2 sleeves of golf balls hole 10 Alan Thiel,2 sleeves of golf balls Longest drive hole 14 Malcolm Porter,2 sleeves of golf balls Two players came in with 35 points, Bob Howes and Vince Hallam. Vince won by a better back 9. Overall winner Vince Hallam,2 sleeves of golf balls, £30 voucher and the Captain's Away Day trophy
Jon Barr leaving presentation 30/5/22 Our head greenkeeper announced he was leaving so the Seniors decided to get him a leaving present. Two vouchers, for his running, worth £190 were presented to him. Pictures here. His reply is below. Hi Bob Could you please pass on my sincere thanks to all of the seniors for the generous leaving gift. I will enjoy spending the voucher's, running is something I really enjoy away from work. I have enjoyed my time at the club and the seniors are a great bunch. It means alot to me that you have taken the time to put a collection together. I have really enjoyed setting up the golf course over the years for the seniors competitions and weekly roll ups. I am excited about starting a new chapter in my life and can't wait to turn my 4.20am alarm off. All the Best Jon Barr Oundle home 25/5/22 Another return match from a club that came last year just after the fire so impressed with the new club house. Match played in great spirit and Tony Brader stepping in for a home team 'no show' was much appreciated. Another good result for the home team. Course in great condition and excellent meal.
Lingdale home 18/5/22 Another good victory in the same week as the Cosby win. The last time we played Lingdale was just after the fire onto the temporary 18th green. They were really impressed with the progress since then. Great match enjoyed by all with final result resting on the last match. Excellent meal. Fortunately, no one last a trolley.
Cosby away 16/5/22 A good win away in great weather. All games played in great spirit with only a few mishaps along the way. One group of four players arrived on the sixteenth tee with only three trolleys. we're not sure if the 3 minute searching time limit applies to trolleys but this was eventually retrieved from a hedge with the wheels still turning. Cosby maintained their reputation for pies with an excellent chicken and mushroom pie. However, our team was let down by a comment "Well that filled a hole, roast beef and yorkshire roast dinner later today ! ! !"
Oundle pairs 12/5/22 A report from Gareth Pomfret Hi Tony, I am still waiting for the official results. Malcolm and I scored 43. There was a 47 and a couple of 44’s in. I think Ian Ward and Mick had around 36. I don’t know how the others did because they left straight after their match without coming into the clubhouse. A very enjoyable day in excellent company. Cheers, Gareth
Kilworth Spring home 12/5/22 A home win with Tony Brader as captain, Lutterworth 5.5, Kilworth 1.5 points. Lovely dry spring day, everyone turned up, dinner was good to top it off. We were presented with a trophy/cup, which Kilworth hold specifically for our fixture. Bonus
Nuneaton home 25/4/22 This match was an early start, with the first tee at 8:00. This was to allow the Nuneaton team to attend their captions funeral. Everyone did get out of bed, some reluctantly, some with anguish from SWMBO . However, the match was played in the best of spirits with the overall result resting on the last match in. This was the first win of the season. The visiting team were very complimentary about the state of the course.
Rothley away, 20/4/22 This fixture was looked forward by many as an opportunity to renew old friendships. A few were playing Rothley for the first time. The course was in great condition but many bunkers GUR as a result of major reworking. Four of the games were close and the overall result was 3 to 3 matches draw although the Rothley captain, an ex Lutterworth player, maintained the result was a win for Rothley by 15 to 13. After an excellent meal, Ken Earp, their captain, made a couple of presentations. First, was a bottle of wine to Steve Wharton for nearest the pin on the fourth. The second was some sandwiches to Mick Shilcock to make up for the sandwiches he once paid for after a roll-up but only after he had left. Overall, a great day out. Staverton away 19/4/22 Unfortunately, yet another defeat by 5.5 to 1.5. The match was played in a great way and the forecast rain did not appear.
Rugby home 13/4/22 Our first match of the season against another club. A close result with the final result all square until the last group, who shook hands on the 15th green so we lost 3.5 to 2.5. There was some discussion as to whether this was for the Sid Ash trophy, yet to be resolved. All enjoyed the games, in spite of some of the final scores. This was followed by an excellent meal that was mush appreciated. Ullesthorpe away, 21/3/22 Our visit back after nearly three years due to COVID. This still struck us as a very later withdrawal so Vince had to play by himself. Overall lost 4 to 3, better than 5 to 2 three years ago. We all enjoyed the golf and the meal after. However, we all needed much more putting practice on out ninth green to cope with the Ullesthorpe greens.
