This was the 2022 away break goinfg away on Tuesday and Wednesday so quite a lot fewer around.
When everyone arrived, they had to select their menu choices for the evening meal, how can they expect seniors to remember this 8 hours and a few beers later. So to the golf on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year, over 40 in places.
The first course was the easier (!!!) Moorland course, very open, little shade and brutal hay rough at the edges of most fairways. some brave/idiotic players decided to walk. Many groups had plenty of opportunities to explore this. High winds were not expected that put paid to a few umbrellas. Eventually, everyone got back into the air conditioning in the club house. Many were covered in sweat (ugh) so a few tables really attacked the cold lager. So to check in and meet in the bar, for more lager and beer, before sitting down in our own dining room. Needless to say, as expected, remembering ones menu choices was a challenge. However Captain Kirk (only for the evening) came to the rescue with the original list. After the meal, surprise surprise, more bees and lagers. One of our group had to be helped off the floor and another had no memory of how he got back to his room.
As expected, there were a few entertaining stories over the breakfast table. One, who should remain nameless although everyone knows who this was, woke up at 5 fully clothed with their shoes on.
So to the second course with many more in buggies. Not quite so hot as the previous day. Quite a different course with some spectacular tee shots and views. Much more challenging with several holes with really sloping fairways so a straight drive could eventually finish up well into the rough. Hardly fair some might think. Surprisingly, greens to both courses were quite slow. Another test of golf.
Overall, a great away break enjoyed by all.
